Miyajima-mania (with photos!)
Fantastic Food, Breathless Scenery.
Heading to Miyajima, an island just off Hiroshima, for the weekend was simply amazing. The photos will do all the talking for me.
Some of the amazing scenery. Miyajima is rated in the top three scenic locations in Japan. I’ll be working on creating some landscape panaormas, and will update accordingly.
This is the famous floating torii (gate), with the torii being the traditional gate for Shinto shrines, at Miyajima Shrine.
The wildlife in Miyajima is quite astounding. There were deer everywhere! They were just sitting/walking around. There were also monkey’s, but apparently they can get quite vicious.
And now for some fun. The power of old men, and the sign reads “Please do not attach a hand to the door”, because…we all want to do that.
The food in Miyajima was awesome. Fresh Oysters is the name of the game in Hiroshima, and I had an awesome lunch (left) and buffet breakfast (right).
Miyajima is also famous for its Manjimanju (sp) which are leaf/star shaped sweets that have all sorts of fillings with red bean being the normal one, but having custard, green tea, chocolate, cheese etc. I would have posted photos of them, but I ate them all before the camera came out. Here’s a pic of how they’re made in compensation.
Did I mention the Oysters? Sooo yumm!! They had stalls setup selling them everywhere!
And these lovely oyster dishes were moments away from my mouth. They’re massive! Oishiiiiii!
Back in Hiroshima, we stayed at the Righa Royal Hotel Hiroshima, a nice 4-star hotel. Everyone is Japan is polite, but the people there were super-polite, it had a nice polished atmosphere and is attached to a major shopping centre. (girls go crazy!) The views from the rooms were amazing. We just managed to catch the sun going down and got some epic photos.
There was also amazing restaurant (Kasumi’s favourite) that does all natural, organic cooking from produce sourced locally within Hiroshima. And the best part was it was a buffet!!!
It was an amazing trip. The scenery was simply breathtaking, and definitely a must-see. Going on the ropeway is worth every penny!!! I’m heading to Kyoto next week. Definitely looking forward to that!
